New York New York
Most of the upper floor - officially, the Coney Island Emporium (daily 8.30am-2am) - is given over to a vast array of carnival sideshows, video games, and other attractions intended for kids. Its corridors also accommodate the often lengthy lines waiting to climb aboard the little yellow taxicabs of the Manhattan Express roller coaster (Sun-Thurs 10.30am-10.30pm, Fri & Sat 10.30am-midnight; $10 per ride, or $30 for an all-day Scream Pass). This is by far the best such ride in Vegas, racing out into the open air at speeds of up to 65mph, and spiraling through some fearsomely tight rolls; not an experience theme-park neophytes should undertake lightly.

Natural History Museum
A mile or so north of downtown, a block beyond the Children's Museum, the Las Vegas Natural History Museum has at least tried to move beyond its traditional dioramas of stuffed animals. Thus the Marine Life Room features a smallish tank of live sharks alongside its mounted specimens, while the Prehistoric Room now offers five large animatronic monsters, including a roaring Tyrannosaurus Rex. 900 Las Vegas Blvd N

Circus Circus can watch trapeze artists, high-wire performers, and clowns. The Adventuredome, inside the hotel, has a roller coaster, water rides, and an arcade.

The Mirage Hotel has waterfalls, a rain forest, and a volcano. Dolphins swim in a 2.5 million-gallon (9.5 million-liter) tank, and white tigers live in an elaborate habitat.

Visitors can watch knights in armor joust at The Excalibur, see a replica of King Tut's tomb at the Luxor, or take a simulated voyage on a Star Trek shuttlecraft at the Las Vegas Hilton.

The Lion Habitat is located inside the MGM Grand Hotel and the MGM Grand Adventures is a seasonal outdoors entertainment complex with theme park rides.
