Emerald Cave

If you are looking for a breathtaking day trip that feels a world away from the neon lights but is actually right in our backyard, Emerald Cave is a must-visit destination. Located in Black Canyon on the Arizona side of the Colorado River, this hidden gem sits just about 36 miles southeast of the Las Vegas Strip. It offers the perfect natural escape for both locals and visitors who want to trade the bustling casino floors for serene desert landscapes and vibrant, glowing waters without spending all day in the car.

Getting there requires two separate stretches of travel, making the journey feel like a true outdoor adventure from start to finish. First, you’ll embark on a scenic, one-hour drive down US-93 South, crossing over the state line near the Hoover Dam to reach the public launch site at Willow Beach Marina. Once you arrive at the marina, the real journey begins as you transition to the water for a gorgeous 2.2-mile paddle upstream through the towering volcanic walls of the canyon.

The ultimate payoff is stepping inside the cave itself, where the sunlight hits the canyon walls at just the right angle to illuminate the water in a brilliant, gemstone green. Whether you choose to launch your own kayak, rent a paddleboard at the marina, or book an all-inclusive guided tour, a trek to Emerald Cave is an unforgettable way to experience the rugged beauty of the Southwest. Just be sure to pack plenty of water, sunscreen, and your camera for the stunning photo ops along the way!
